Trucking Accidents and Truck Drivers Sleep Apnea Dangers
Why Do We Have the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations for Trucks?
by Jay Foster, Mississippi Trucking Accident Attorney
We get asked this question quite often. The purpose of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations is to prevent accidents or wrecks. This is especially important in Mississippi as we have many 18 wheeler or trucking accidents and wrecks throughout our state.
Of course, our economy depends, in part, on trucking. However, just as important as trucking is to our econonomy, responsiblity while driving is crucial as truck driving involves serious interstate accidents and safety hazards.
Unfortunately, truck drivers are often overworked and underpaid and many times, it is not necessarily the truck driver's fault for a wreck. Instead, it may well be the truck driving company's fault for forcing the driver to work too many hours in violation of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Rules. This results in sleep deprivation and causes wrecks. Of course, as with many professions, including attorneys, there are some very dangerous and incompentent truck drivers.
In America, for every nine deaths due to a wreck, one of those wrecks involved a truck or 18 wheeler. In fact, in America, 457,000 trucks or 18 wheelers were in accidents. Moreover, 4,669 were involved in accidents that caused deaths. You can read more about why we have the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations by clicking here.
